I think, in addition to the long form poems, that I need to continue to work on shorter works as well. I hope this will help me keep my language-use focused, which, with all the room available in the longer forms, probably is a skill I need to keep honed.I will be posting these shorter works to my twitter: @ericmrwebb, and they will appear in the sidebar here. Working on both ends of the poem-length spectrum may be way too much to take on, but I hope that the different skills necessary for these will, like I wrote, help me keep language focused.
I think the really short form enforced by twitter requires a lot of use of implication by the poet. Compressed metaphor and image, lateral associations, and other techniques are ones I hope to exercise as well.
